« We are an explicitly queer, trans, anticapitalist and antiracist space
run in a democratic and broadly
non-hierarchical way. »
« These sessions usually involve small-scale, informal matches and are open to people of all abilities. At our kickabouts, we aim to provide a non-competitive space where fun and community building are the main priority. »
« We build and occupy political spaces, both through football and solidarity with other groups. »
« Queerspace FC was set up to challenge traditional societal norms »
« Through our practice of radical inclusivity, we work to ensure that
people who are otherwise excluded from queer and/or sporting communities feel welcome
and supported at Queerspace FC. We are always open to newcomers. Building relationships
with other footballing, queer and activist groups is central
to our growing community. »
« Footy dykes for trans rights »
« Queerspace FC 4 trans rights »
« We take up space as a visibly queer group, we show up for anti-racist causes and we stand in solidarity with those dealing with systems of oppressions. »
« Ignorance = fear
silence = death »
« Practising anti-racism as a club goes beyond being “non-racist” or including black and brown people as members. An anti-racist approach acknowledges that we live in a white supremacist context that is built on the ongoing violence, exclusion, exploitation and degradation of racialised people. »
« Given this premise, it is not enough to say that we do not tolerate racism on an
interpersonal level; we must also commit to tackling the role that racism plays in structuring our
social world. For Queerspace FC, our zero-tolerance policy against interpersonal racism
is supported by a bigger commitment to fight
for anti-racist justice. »
« This looks like showing up for anti-racist causes such as police, prison and border abolition, as well as building our own capacities to reflect on how race and racism shape the spaces we share. »
« Our members and wider communities are implicated in a massive range of connected political struggles. The principle of solidarity leads us to show up for radical causes, whether or not our members are directly affected by the oppressions they fight. »
« As a team, we stand in solidarity with groups and individuals dealing with any system of oppression by helping raise funds for strike funds, engaging in demos, participating in events and other activities aimed at promoting social justice. »
